The Three Waves of Trends
TRENDS
As we discussed design concepts for the upcoming year, we recognized that the level of design risk each couple is willing to take can be grouped into three distinct tiers. Below, we share our humble perspective on how each tier is defined.

First Wave Design
Also known as “pioneering design”. You’re not just following trends, you’re shaping the future and setting the stage for what’s to come in the year ahead. Your work is influencing the direction of the industry, setting new standards, and inspiring innovation that will define the next wave of creativity. Only a handful of weddings each year will naturally achieve this level of impact, with their designs going viral and sparking the second wave of trends. Couples in the “first wave” place their trust in florists and planners to bring bold, out-of-the-box concepts to life, often without relying on pre-existing visuals. These industry pioneers are the ones responsible for creating the imagery that will define future trends.

Second Wave Design:
Second wave design draws inspiration from the first wave, taking cues from their bold concepts and adapting them to a broader audience. These designs refine and reinterpret the trends set by the pioneers, making them more accessible while maintaining their innovative spirit.
This cohort also finds their own unique twists within the groundwork laid by the first wave, building on those foundational trends to create something fresh and personal. They take the initial concepts and add their own creative spin, pushing the boundaries while staying true to the core ideas.

Third Wave Design:
Third wave design takes inspiration from both the first and second waves but is characterized by a more mainstream adoption of trends. At this stage, the bold, innovative concepts have become widely recognized and are often refined for broader appeal. At this stage the trend has been around for a few years.
